The girls varsity soccer team is one of the most successful teams at Battlefield. After winning states multiple years in a row, the team is expected to have another successful season. With tryouts coming up, the coaches have started preparing for the team and the season. Coach Hilton says, “Before trying out, all students should know that they must have a physical on file and have attended or completed the concussion requirement. In addition, all students must make sure they are academically eligible to participate. Typically the girls soccer program will carry between 40-45 players between Varsity and Junior Varsity.” Interested players should contact Coach Hilton to get tryout dates as well as pre-season practices.

Hilton says, “The girls soccer program is always looking for players who have a positive attitude, are committed to the program, and conduct themselves in a first class manner.  The difference between the levels of play (Varsity or J.V.) is typically athleticism and your ability to play with technical ability at a high level in tight spaces. A lot of players are skillful, but can you be skillful at pace and under pressure?  That is often the difference between a J.V. and Varsity player.” Players should come prepared to play at tryouts, as from the beginning they will be examined. Competition is tough, as over 100 girls tried out last year.

Coach Hilton is already preparing for the season, saying, “As coaches our role is to make sure the players are put in a position to succeed. We will work to keep a competitive training environment so that players continue to improve throughout the year, while having some fun along the way as well.  We have to make sure that players grow from adverse situations during the season so that they are ready for the adversity in the postseason.”

Looking forward, Hilton has high hopes for the season, “Our hopes for this season are to be competitive. We have established a high standard of success in the girls soccer program and we look to maintain that standard.” Teamwork is key in soccer; the girls do many team bonding activities throughout the season to get closer and overall, play better together. Girls soccer has had high success in past years and the teams are excited to see what this season has in store!
