Bobcats basketball scores victory in season opener

In the first game of the Battlefield varsity boys’ basketball season, the Bobcats secured a close victory against the visiting Freedom Eagles (Woodbridge), winning 65-62. Throughout the game, the Bobcats played with “intensity and passion,” as sophomore center Wes Williams phrased it in a pregame interview. “We want to outwork every team that we play against.”

In the first half, the Bobcats were in control both offensively and defensively, being led by point guard Carter Svenson, and forwards Trevor Bounds and Jordan Radford, ending the half 43-32.

In the second half, however, the Eagles mounted something of a comeback, scoring 30 points to Battlefield’s 19 to tie the game at 62 points in the 4th quarter. Then, Jordan Radford scored three points, a layup and a free throw, with five seconds left on the clock, ensuring a Battlefield win.

Radford led the team in scoring with 25 points, with Trevor Bounds coming up with 14 points and a double-double. Guards Carter Svenson and Tristan Olds supplemented the offense, with guard Brett Laster providing additional defense.
