BTS is a boy band in South Korea with 7 members: RM, SUGA, J-Hope, V, Jimin, Jungkook, and Jin. These boys make hip hop tunes from sad music to uplifting music. This group is internationally the biggest K-Pop group, and they continue to grow with 136.4 million fans. The boy band debuted in 2013 and has continued to make music tremendously. This year, January 26, 2020, the Grammys took place, and BTS were used as backup dancers for a western singer and a popular rapper. These two singers received a lot of hate from the fans of BTS because they thought BTS deserved more than being backup singers and dancers.

The fans of BTS, also known as Army, have been going on about BTS not being properly accepted in the Grammys, and it is thriving on the twitter home page. Verbal “fights’ ‘ have occurred back and forth with Armys and the rapper’s fans. The fights are more of a diss to the rapper rather than to the fans, but when the rapper’s fans saw it, they got defensive, and a Twitter war broke out between the two. Halsey, a celeb “ deleting and ignoring all negativity. BTS deserved many nominations. I am however, unsurprised that they weren’t acknowledged. the US is so far behind on the whole movement. the time will come. She said this as a defending act for BTS, but many other celebrities have also come to their defense.

A lot of  people at Battlefield High School  have discussed this topic with their friends and a few teachers. Arisha Zahoor, a freshman at Battlefield High School had something to say about it. She says,“ I personally love BTS! I’m one of the heavy fans that gets called an army. I’m in great disappointment by lil nas X and the other rapper, the way the treated BTS as backup dancers was not right whatsoever. BTS deserves a lot more than they get. They have changed many people’s lives with their music and I feel like they should have been more recognized.” Arisha was not the only person who thought this when they heard about BTS being backup dancers/singers. Although, BTS did make a remix of the song with Lil nas X, it was still unfair for them to only be in the back, while the rappers and a few other people were in front of them, almost completely blocking their view.

Another student at Battlefield High School, Ayden Kwak, completely contradicts what Arisha said. He states, “ I’m not a very large fan of BTS and the community around it. I do listen to a few Korean songs but not like BTS. The hip-hop part of kpop is the part I don’t like all too much. As well as me being a fan of lil nas X and his music, I really did not mind BTS being back up singers and dancers.” BTS is not affected by the tweets or the press getting in their face about what happened as  the group is a very humble band, and they continue to not let things get in their way. By doing so, they continue to produce their new album and work on their own dances, gaining many followers in the process. Lil nas X has nothing bad on BTS and neither does BTS to Lil nas X. So, in conclusion, they both are still very highly ranked in the music industry and will not let the Grammys performance stop them from producing music even if fans may be raging about it.
