On Tuesday, September 8, Kim Kardashian took to instagram to tell her millions of followers that her family’s hit show, Keeping up with the Kardashians, will be coming to an end. The 20th season will air in 2021 making it the 14th and final year of the show. Kardashian fans around the world will have to say goodbye to the very show that made the Kardashians A-list celebrities.

Over the past 14 years the Kardashian-Jenner family has evolved greatly, watching the family grow and change was certainly not boring. The family recalls their journey on Instagram saying,  we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years – through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children.” Since the start of the show in 2007, they have added 10 children to the family. There have been many memorable moments on the show, from the time Kim lost her diamond earring in the waters of Bora Bora, to the time Kim would not stop taking selfies on their way to prison after Khloe violated a drinking-driving probation.

The reason for the show’s cancelation is up for speculation. E! made a statement to Variety  saying, “While it has been an absolute privilege and we will miss them wholeheartedly, we respect the family’s decision to live their lives without our cameras.” This statement could come across as unconvincing, considering there is no family better made for constantly being on camera. The show’s declining views would also show reason for the cancellation. The show peaked 10 years ago at around season 5 with 4.5 million viewers. In March of 2020, the season 18 premiere had just over 1 million viewers. This could be because of how popular social media platforms have become over the past 10 years, and anyone familiar with the Kardashian-Jenner family knows they are very active and famous on social media with a whopping 786 million combined followers on Instagram alone.

The 19th season of KUWTK aired on September 17,covering how the family dealt with being quarantined during the pandemic. The 20th and final season will air in 2021 and is expected to go out with a bang. Cece Charlesworth, a sophomore at Battlefield and an avid viewer of KUWTK , says this, “I am really sad about KUWTK ending because I’ve watched it since I was 9.”. The millions of fans the family have accumulated over the past 14 years, will no longer be able to keep up with the Kardashians.
