Mr. Buzzi was promoted to head of security this year, before he worked as a security guard at Battlefield. With the school being heavily populated technology is being added to promote safety. Mr. Buzzi and the security team have made some changes to the security policies this school year.
A recent change to the building this year is the new drop off pattern which creates less traffic and build up in the mornings, allowing more students to be on time. According to Mr. Buzzi, “This made the parking lot much safer, and the time needed to drop off much shorter.” The addition of the parking lot becoming safer ensures parents and students themselves that they have a safe, effective way to get to school.
The traffic last year has drastically been cut down in the mornings and creates a more organized system causing less hectic mornings. This effects the students and staff both, but mostly the student’s parents dropping them off. It creates a faster way to leave the school so parents can tend to their other responsibilities.
Another change is the new Evolv security system which is a metal detector that catches weapons, vapes and other items prohibited at school. This year’s students must make accommodations to the school supplies they purchase. The detectors can be falsely set off by metal objects so Mr. Buzzi explains “It will detect items that could be weapons. Procedures may slow down temporarily as we all get used to the new process, but I am confident that we can manage.” Students can use the acronym BLUE to remind them to take out their binders, laptops, umbrellas and eyeglass cases to help make sure false alarms don’t occur.
The system will become effective on September 28th and uses AI to detect prohibited items entering the school. As the year goes on Mr. Buzzi hopes that the holdup in the mornings will be solved as students get used to the new safety measures.
This school year has been very busy for Mr. Buzzi and the security department of Battlefield. Mr. Buzzi says “I think it took a bit for the new freshman class to get accustomed to the culture of respect and courtesy here at BHS. I feel like everyone is settling in now.”
Everyone’s been a freshman before, and everyone knows how stressful it is to enter a new school. The security department does a really good job at accommodating every student to battlefield and making them feel welcomed.
